In addition to sharing the definition and framework [link] for SEL, here are three core messages to highlight when explaining SEL.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>SEL is for everyone.<\/strong> SEL develops skills that help us be successful in all parts of our lives\u2014like communicating effectively, setting goals, staying motivated, and making decisions that benefit ourselves and others. With these skills, we can build healthy relationships, succeed in schools and workplaces, and contribute to our communities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>SEL is based in science.<\/strong> Hundreds of independent studies show that SEL leads to better academic performance, improved well-being, and safer schools. It creates positive school environments where children learn the skills they need to succeed in school and in their futures.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>SEL brings families, schools, and communities together. <\/strong>The way SEL is implemented in schools and which skills are emphasized are driven by partnerships between families and schools and tailored to the local community\u2019s priorities, cultures, and needs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"surveys-broad-support-for-sel\">Surveys: Broad Support for SEL<\/h2><a class=top href=\"#top\">Back to top<\/a>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Parents and caregivers support SEL \u2026&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>93% <\/strong>of parents say it\u2019s at least somewhat important that schools teach SEL, including two-thirds that say SEL is extremely or very important to them. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/social-trends\/2022\/10\/26\/parents-differ-sharply-by-party-over-what-their-k-12-children-should-learn-in-school\/\"><em>Pew Research Center, 2022<\/em><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>88% <\/strong>want schools to teach students social and emotional skills like respect, cooperation, perseverance, and empathy. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pta.org\/home\/About-National-Parent-Teacher-Association\/PTA-Newsroom\/news-list\/news-detail-page\/2022\/06\/17\/new-national-survey-shows-parents-more-comfortable-about-covid-19-risks-and-student-well-being-in-schools\"><em>National PTA, 2022<\/em><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>81% <\/strong>want their children\u2019s school to continue teaching SEL or do more on SEL. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cfchildren.org\/press\/press-releases\/new-polling-data-show-overwhelming-support-for-social-emotional-learning-among-parents\/\"><em>Benenson Strategy Group, 2022<\/em><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>More than <strong>75% <\/strong>of both Democrats and Republicans say that learning life skills and social skills at school is just as important as learning academics. <a href=\"https:\/\/sel.fordhaminstitute.org\/#sel-and-parent-values\"><em>Fordham Institute, 2021<\/em><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a their own words.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Educators support SEL \u2026&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>90% <\/strong>of teachers agree that promoting SEL improves students\u2019 academic achievement. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rand.org\/pubs\/research_briefs\/RBA397-1.html\"><em>RAND, 2020<\/em><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>84%<\/strong> of teachers say it has a positive impact on skills such as collaboration, communication, and critical thinking. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edweek.org\/leadership\/how-educators-view-social-emotional-learning-in-charts\/2022\/11\"><em>Education Week, 2022<\/em>&nbsp;<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>96% <\/strong>of school administrators believe that SEL is just as important as academic learning. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mheducation.com\/news-media\/press-releases\/new-k12-survey-social-emotional-learning-gains-prominence.html\"><em>McGraw Hill, 2018<\/em><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>95%<\/strong> of principals are committed to developing students\u2019 social and emotional skills in their school. <a href=\"https:\/\/casel.org\/casel-resources-ready-to-lead-2019\/\"><em>CASEL, 2019<\/em>&nbsp;<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=3V24Et3LpCY&amp;list=PLM3PYurzmKsAsqIBxCAwu74A9vOTZkpRj&amp;index=12\"><strong>Superintendents nationwide<\/strong><\/a><strong> talk about the value of SEL in their communities.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Employers support SEL \u2026&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>92% <\/strong>of surveyed executives say skills such as problem-solving and communicating clearly are equally or more important than technical skills. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/employers-find-soft-skills-like-critical-thinking-in-short-supply-1472549400\"><em>Wall Street Journal, 2016<\/em>&nbsp;<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>80% <\/strong>of employers said social and emotional skills are increasingly important to company success. <a href=\"https:\/\/news.linkedin.com\/2019\/January\/linkedin-releases-2019-global-talent-trends-report\"><em>LinkedIn Global Talent Trends, 2019<\/em><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>51% <\/strong>of surveyed human resources professionals say education systems have done little or nothing to help address the skills shortage: problem-solving, critical thinking, innovation, communication. <a 2019<\/em><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Young people support SEL \u2026&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>76% <\/strong>of high school students say they
